Health Benefits of Mushrooms

Mushrooms are somewhat of a buzz word in the health and wellness community these days. “Adaptogens.” “Functional Medicine.” “Superfood.” Lately, they are used for their myriad of health benefits. Different types have different healing properties. The health benefits of mushrooms I’m discussing today are mainly the adaptogenic kind: Tulsi, Lion’s Mane, Reishi and Chaga.

While each of these has individual differences, they all add overall immune support, antioxidants, and vitality. For centuries, mushrooms have been used in Eastern medicine and are sworn by in Ayurvedic and functional medicine. So, here’s a look at some of the top benefits mushrooms are said to have:

  • Tulsi (aka Holy Basil): lowers stress levels, can help ease anxiety and pain, lowers cholesterol
  • Lion’s Mane: reduces risk of heart disease/diabetes, reduces inflammation, boosts memory, focus, and mood
  • Reishi: can help improve sleep, may help against cancers, could improve liver function
  • Chaga: contains a variety of minerals & nutrients, helps lower blood sugar & cholesterol, prevents chronic inflammation

Organic Mushroom Tea

Growing up, mushrooms were one of the few foods I actually couldn’t stand (and I’m still not too crazy about eating them all the time), but they are even available as teas and powders now! These can be such a nourishing supplement for health and vitality. Be mindful that not all teas or powders are processed the same.
